After your braces are removed, it’s easy to become more lax about caring for your smile. However, there is never a more important time to be vigilant about your oral hygiene. After all, you aren’t going through the alignment process for nothing, right? Here are some helpful tips to keep you going:

Wear your retainer: Dr. Jerrold Hennes gave you a retainer to keep your bite in its proper formation. Even after your braces come off, there is residual tension in your periodontal ligaments. This tempts your teeth to move out of place. So make sure that you are wearing your retainer every night to prevent this from happening.

Keep up on oral hygiene: You know the routine: brush twice a day and floss once a day. You’ll also want to schedule semiannual dental cleanings, and one of them should be right after your braces come off. That way your dentist and assistants can thoroughly clean any areas that were missed during the time you had braces.

Wait to whiten your teeth: Are you interested in brightening your smile? You’ll want to wait at least a month before doing so. This will give your newly exposed teeth enamel the chance to strengthen and become less sensitive.

These tips will help you stay on the right track toward maintaining the straight, beautiful, and pain-free smile you deserve. For more information, please feel free to call Hennes Orthodontics in Vista, California at (760) 598.1707. We look forward to helping you!
